Mayasa Telfair, MPH, AADP, C.H.H.C
Mayasa Telfair serves as Senior Health & Wellness Coordinator for Blacks in Government Washington, DC Region IX. She is responsible for providing advice and guidance on matters relating to women’s health research in asthma, weight management and autoimmune diseases. Mayasa provides consultation and advice to Bureau programs and other government entities and is a liaison with public and private institutions and organizations for the purpose of identifying issues affecting the health status of women and minorities. She has initiated the development of women's health interventions and a statewide partnership in Healing through Movement. Mayasa has a Master's Degree in Public Health and focuses on public health practices, as it intersects with urban planning, policy, advocacy, community organizing, communications, integrated health and social sustainability.
Mayasa is a Certified Holistic Consultant who educates on a holistic approach to nutrition, natural healing and lasting wellness; Board certified to practice under the American Association of Drugless Practitioners;
A National Certified Counselor (NCC) Certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).
Mayasa mediates and litigates complaints and/or inquiries, analyzing legal and technical implications under applicable Federal Government regulations; developing solutions and making recommendations to responsible entities.
Mayasa holds an Aocciates Paralegal Law Degree and has assisted local housing operations, homelessness, and therapeutic childcare programs by providing comprehensive, integrated, client-centered writing services for at-risk and low income communities.
Mayasa is a bellydance instructor and has traveled throughout the world performing and participating in all aspects of the dance; Ensuring that the emphasis is on health and healing the physical, psychological, social, economic, and cultural factors related to bellydance. She danced for ten years with the original “MoorHips" Dance Company, the largest African American troupe in the United States. The original “MoorHips” dance troupe” meticulously combined skills, knowledge and resources; organized and cultivated the Bellydancers of Color Association (BOCA) and the Bellydance Conference (BOCA FEST) held annually.
Mayasa can be seen in performance DVDs including an instructional DVD entitled “Moor Hips” She was written about in several news articles including, the Washington Post and London Times. Mayasa has served as Holistic Health Advisor and written articles for several magazines, blogs and periodicals and has also appeared on numerous TV programs (including FOX TV) and radio interviews with WPFW on the Pacifica Network, and Black Liberation Radio with Dr. Ray Hagins.
Mayasa maintains she will always be a student, because the love and encouragement of others always offers her something new to learn.
