Nekhena Evans?  Most people would say she is truly “The Queen of Locks”.  She is a pioneer and trailblazer in the Natural Hair Industry. She is the founder of New Bein’ Enterprises, which since its inception in 1991, has moved steadfastly, introducing new concepts, products and services into the industry. 

Nekhena Evans is the founder of New Bein’ Enterprises, established in 1991.   She was one of the first group of licensed Natural Hairstylists in NYC in 1994.  New Bein’ opened one of the first all natural Hairlocking Salons in NYC in 1991 promoting a new aesthetic and setting standards in natural hair care services. In 1993, Ms. Evans authored, “Hairlocking:  Everything You Need To Know, the groundbreaking first book on the subject of Hairlocking.  New Bein’ is the innovator of many other firsts in the industry: creating the first collections of custom made Hair Jewelry specifically designed for ethnic hair i.e. locks, braids & twists.  In 1995 Nekhena Evans developed one of the first all natural product lines designed to meet the special needs of coiled hair textures.  It is one of the finest product lines available in the world for coiled hair textures.  In 1995, Ms. Evans created “INTERTWINED”, NYC’s first and only Natural Hair Conference.  It was designed to meet the needs of both professionals and lay people through education and empowerment.  Intertwined was a phenomenal success and became the model for Natural Hair Shows within the industry, being replicated in numerous other states.  Since Intertwined Nekhena Evans is now the “resident” Natural Hair Show Producer for Brooklyn’s largest cultural festival, The International African Arts Festival.  She has produced their annual hair show for the last seven years.  New Bein’ Enterprises, was the recipient of the NYC Small Business Awards, by the Mayor Bloomberg in 2005.

Nekhena has been featured in numerous hair magazines, newspaper articles, cable TV and radio programs. She has trained and conducted workshops nationally and internationally, always bringing a message of empowerment to her audiences whatever her topic.
